Hopefully, Comcast/Xfinity is done with their cable stuff in this area now. Google came through a while back and installed fiber (Comcast only had cable) and stole most of their customers, and now they are upgrading to get some back. At least it means cheaper prices and higher connections speeds. Th...

"When I was your age, television was called BOOKS!"
Reminds me a bit of that comment Dave Lister made in Red Dwarf, when he thought he was going to die... "I can't die! ...and I've never read... a book!"

Re: Server crash

A number of the screens in the UCP (User Control Panel) are coming up blank... don't know why yet, but am looking into it. It may have more to do with the last phpBB3 update, than the server crash.

Uncommon Sense

I had a Eureka** moment in the shower the other night. I realized how a person's worldview is influenced by the source of "information input." When I was a kid, it was 95% reading and 5% B&W video (broadcast TV--3 channels), a few hours a week. Now it is 99% video. **Greek for "this bathwater is too...

Thermal overload

Can you believe it... I FINALLY get all the bugs worked out of the site and get everything up, and the server loses a fan, overheats and crashes.

Fixed now; at least that is what I was told by the hardware support folks.

Re: Server crash

All the websites should be back up and running normally.

Let me know if you run into any problems, as there are thousands of little things that can go wrong, that never show up on the basic validation tests.

Re: Server crash

Still having issues with server and websites. Web services crashed today for a while--almost impossible to debug, when the only error it gives you is "service failed to start." Duh, I KNOW that! Antiquatis main site is down, haven't figured out why yet. I think something in the config file became co...

Re: The Outer Limits (1995)

If you like, I can upload the AVI file. I could take a look at it sure. Thanks. I have added it to the library as a "video loan." See: Antiquatis Reference Library for access information. You will have to download it, then watch locally on your computer, as there is not a video player available the...

Re: Server crash

Since we upgraded the OS with the hard drive replacement, there are still a bunch of problems floating around the websites, most notably the Antiquatis main site, reciprocal.systems and rstheory.org. I am just going to deprecate rstheory.org and redirect it to reciprocalsystem.org, to reduce mainten...

Re: The Outer Limits (1995)

Have you seen the original series, from 1963-1964? The most unsettling show I've EVER seen is from that series, "Wolf 359" (series 2, episode 8; a reference they used in ST-TNG with the Borg). Just thinking about it again gives me goosebumps. It is a classic "suspense" film, which means it is NOT "a...

Re: Honour and Common Sense

That Dilbert cartoon is a riot... but I'll bet nobody "gets it," because you need common sense! One of the things people don't connect is that honesty is derived from honor . One can never expect a dishonorable person to ever deal fairly or honestly--which explains our system of commerce. However, t...

Honour and Common Sense

Having been around for 61% a century now, I have watched the "fall of mankind" as he descended downward into self-centered mercantilism. In order to do this, he sacrificed two very important concepts of old: honor and common sense . This is required for the "suspension of disbelief" that marketing r...

Server crash

The server crashed this morning from a hard drive problem, affecting Antiquatis, ConsciousHugs and the RS sites.

It is now fixed, but the server provider is recommending the hard drives be replaced with newer ones.

Right now, everything should be OK.

Re: Planetary Electric Discharge

What kind of space weapon kills bodies but not clothes? Probably not space-based, given that pictures of angels in flight tended to have contrails coming out of their feet... probably some kind of jet aircraft doing the delivery. The weapon, itself, a microwave bomb. Water in the body (blood) turns...

Re: Planetary Electric Discharge

Anyway, I seem to remember part of the thesis was that at one time Saturn was so close that electric discharges were generated between it and earth. AND, the massive Grand Canyon (USA/Arizona) is one such remnant of a discharge. Common erosion position fails in that no debris remains, and the path ...

Re: Do Volcanoes Attract Meteors?

Something that occurred to me was that there are two types of volcanic rock (southern Utah is full of volcanic rocks): stony and iron. The stony ones tend to be light with a light, small bubbled surface. The iron ones are heavy with large bubbles in them. Curiously, asteroids/meteors come in two typ...

Re: Do Volcanoes Attract Meteors?

Pleasant surprise, logging in to find some interesting research posted (that isn't mine!). Have you used the Reciprocal System to come up with a theory on the association between volcanoes and meteors? I just read a piece discussing that cometary tails are NOT the vaporized gas and dust from the hea...
