I'm quite certain the gif is for illustrative purposes only, not accuracy. Graphic designers don't usually obey technical accuracy when trying to communicate a message through visual impact, but rather focus on the impression. If it was realistic, from that distance, wouldn't be noticeable. Unless it moved, say, 60 miles instead?
But is it moving, or part of a global expansion?
Or both? That's a question I would ask you. Is expansion even being measured by anyone? Is it expanding now, or stopped? How would you prove it?
I thought I'd read an article a few years ago, describing how the ocean floor around Australia was rising quite rapidly (in terms of geological time), which might relate to these movements, but can't seem to locate the reference any longer.
