UFO-related

A former governor now says an event in the sky may have been a UFO. CNN's Gary Tuchman reports. (March 22)

The particular video clips provided suggest flares to me.

The online archives, which will be updated as new cases are reported, catalogues in minute detail cases ranging from the easily dismissed to a handful that continue to perplex even hard-nosed scientists.

"The past six months have been the most astonishing period of change in the whole history of the UFO phenomenon. Not since the early fifties have there been so many and such extensive sightings, and never with such a level of official support for the reality of the phenomenon."

Phoenix UFO confirmed: George Noory interviews former Governor of Arizona

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 1513&q=ufo

Former Arizona governor Fife Symington tells George Noory that he not only saw the 1997 Phoenix UFO, but that he believes that it was a non-human craft from another world.

Film producer James Fox first interviewed Symington for his upcoming new release of "Out of the Blue." He also speaks with George.

For more information, see: http://www.coasttocoastam.com/shows/2007/03/30.html

Investigative journalist Leslie Kean first broke the story. Read her news article on Symington's historic revelation: http://www.freedomofinfo.org/news/symington-story.pdf

Anomalous Image on Google Maps

Post by zenmaster » Tue Apr 17, 2007 6:04 am

Interesting starburst lense flare photo taken from a satellite:

Here's another example of the same pattern:

Purmerend oddity

Post by LoneBear » Tue Apr 17, 2007 1:54 pm

The anomaly is located just north of Amsterdam, in Purmerend. It looks like one of those Shadow ships from B5.

Analysis of the image shows no shadow being cast that can be detected. The granularity of the image is sharper for the shadow object than it is for the surrounding landscape at maximum zoom, which may indicate less atmospheric distortion and something at a higher altitude. The map at maximum zoom shows the ground level scale at 50 feet, making the object 30 feet in diameter if it were on the ground. Given the distance to the satellite that took it, the actual object size is probably not much smaller.

My guess would be a helicopter, catching the sun.

That's an artifact of the over-exposure effect - which produces a higher contrast due to black and white neighboring pixels. My guess is a pool or solar panels.

Then again, maybe I shouldn't write things off so quickly... I was making some tomato soup last night, and when I looked in the pan, I saw this...

Subtle hint?

This one has decent context:

"this incredible clear shot of a static ufo was recorded on april 24 2007 from my home in south of france ; I first saw it at 5:30PM and it stayed there almost without moving nor noise until the sun went down ; I estimate that it was low altitude

i hope other people could film it and post their film as response to mine if you did ; i am very interested in discussing this event with anyone who saw it

——— added on april 26
also see additional footage of unidentified object flying at night, shooted on same location as this one (in "more from this user")"

this is more convicing, however if you check the angle of the sun from the beginning of the clip, the low sunlight would be stricking the object and revealing its volumetric releive, and following a preconception about materiality, reflectivity. My only issue is that it appears as a dark, flat hole in the sky during early evening and dusk. Basically, a flay black hole...not even a disc. That suggests a manufactured item - however, it does seem to sit in the sky and not on it, shares the same resolution, etc etc...There is enough I don't know about ufo's to say this one could be real, and there is enough I know about digital manipulation for it to be a fake - but by far the most convincing.

It appears to be the lit side of some building, but they claim it is floating in the air.

yeah, the last one is crap.

Right, if there is too much context, it *must* be a fake. Too little and it could be interpreted as anything. The imagination fills in the gaps with what is desired to be there rather than what actually is there - like Hoagland, et al mistaking video compression artifacts as alien artifacts or a piece of insulation for an animal. Or Serada mistaking out-of-focus debris around the space shuttle for UFOs. There is something disturbingly wrong with these people, because they seem to believe what they claim.

But crap, in what sense? Someone thought it was compelling enough to put on TV. If the facts are as stated, and it is not a hoax, then the object in the video is a huge mystery.

The footage from Veracruz, a close-up, unfocused plant pod, perhaps. There's fuzziness around it. The bending of grass stalk gives it the streak effect.

It does move like a descending balloon. However, it was claimed in the video narration that the policemen looked around at the site and found no balloon.

anyone can claim what they want though. I guess I just honestly won't beleive that any contact/landing/flyby has happened until I see with my own eyes.

There is lack of compelling evidence and what is provided as "good" evidence is lousy. If it is lousy, then don't hype it up - you lose credibility. Most UFO and paranormal investigators tend to put all their energy into persuading people towards their bias at the expense of being honest and methodical.

That there is something unexplained is not the question. The question is how does one tentatively frame and share information on what is observed in order to gain better understanding. In a knowledge-sharing environment, the more bad explanations or misleading contextualizations are offered, the more the actual explanation, whatever it may be, is obscured. No one wants to collaborate, to get to the bottom of a mystery, if that mystery is associated with crackpots. But these people are in the business of sensationalism, so we have situations like people sincerely claiming that a string of balloons in the sky is the fullfillment of a prophecy "on the 9th the dragon will be born".
