A dairy maid, a bonny lass

(Scottish; a pretty, unmarried woman)
Shall kick this stone as she does pass
(old child's game, known in America as "kick the can" a couple generations ago. Kicking the stone means to set an event into motion).
And five generations she shall breed
(great, great, great grandson)
Before one male child does learn to read.
(people were illiterate then, reading was rare)
This is then held year by year
Till an iron monster trembling fear
Eats parchment, words and quill and ink
(widespread use of the printing press; large, metallic, gear-driven, noisy and dangerous mechanism)
And mankind is given time to think.
(with the advent of the printing press, almost anyone could copy and distribute books and papers--until then, the "word" was controlled primarily by the church scribes, who only copied what they church allowed. Many new opinions became widely distributed, giving mankind "time to think".)
cointreau wrote:Who is the maid and the generation of iliterates? What is the machine eating parchment? Is she refering to the industrial evolution?
A "dairy maid" is usually a young woman on a farm whose duty is to remove the cream from the milk, make butter, etc... all the by-products that can be obtained from fresh milk. A generation is about 20 years, so 5 generations would be a century. Her prophecies were made in the early 1500s, and published by Richard Head a little over a century later. So one would assume that Richard's great great great grandmother may have been a bonny lass who knew Mother Shipton.
We're talking 16th century, so reading was limited to scholars, not the general public. The machine eating parchment is the printing press, pulling in paper and ink, grinding and clunking, producing the printed word.
Who was the Jew born of a Christian she refers to?
The Jew that once was held in scorn
Shall of a Christian then be born
I don't know British history well enough to determine if this was a person, but it may be a reference to religion. Jesus taught Judaism originally, hence he was "Jew". It was later on, after his death, that it became "Christianity". England was originally a pagan country and thus opposed to the "Jew held in scorn", not generally accepted. So it may refer to a religious belief once scorned will become generally accepted and promoted.
Who are the three rulers from different dynasties?
Three rulers in succession be
Each springs from different dynasty.
Then when the fiercest strife is done
England and France shall be as one
My guess for the "strifes" would be the Napoleonic wars, World War I and World War II, with rulers being Napoleon, Hitler, and George Bush
Back in the 1970s, England made a move to become "part of the continent"--being part of the European alliances, and dropping much of the hatred that developed during WWII. That may be what "England and France shall be as one" may refer to.
what marriage was that between Brits and Teutons?
The British olive shall next then twine
In marriage with a german vine.
In my opinion, the reference isn't to people, but to "houses", in particular, the House of Hesse and/or Rothschild. Vines tend to entangle and snare, do they not? The German vine that entangled the English society was the banking system, created and maintained by the German Houses.
and this one below I don't understand at all
In London, Primrose Hill shall be
In centre hold a Bishop's See
A "See" is the old name for the Bishop's office (center of authority) from where he administers a church. Again, I don't know enough about Brit history to make a connection here.
Can you clarify this analogy?:
They'll ride astride with brazen brow
As witches do on broomstick now.
In the old days, women always rode a horse side-saddle (both legs to the side) because they actually wore dresses and it was very shameful for a woman to spread her legs (riding astride; one leg on each side) in public. We are talking Victorian times here, with all the Freudian repressions. Only the evil witches mounted their broomsticks astride (ever see "Bewitched", the old TV series? Samantha, in the intro, rides side-saddle because she is a good witch).
What Gabriel is she talking about?
For storms will rage and oceans roar
When Gabriel stands on sea and shore
And as he blows his wondrous horn
Old worlds die and new be born.
The Archangel Gabriel, whom, when he blew his horn, signaled the end of the world.
I suppose the fiery dragon is a comet yet to come and she mentions the sixth heralds the end, can you elaborate?
A fiery dragon will cross the sky
Six times before this earth shall die
Mankind will tremble and frightened be
For the sixth heralds in this prophecy
Gopi and I were chatting about this a couple nights ago. A comet makes sense, first seen in the sky, then disappears as it goes behind the sun, then reappears again, with the Earth moving through its tail. If she wrote this around 1550, as the records indicate, one can assume that it would have to be a highly visible comet--like Halley's Comet--which, by the way, has passed the Earth 6 times since her prophecy, with the last appearance being in 1986.
PS: Don't forget to account for the Confederation's "time lateral", that has delayed the end of the 3rd density on Earth.
what piece of land resurfaces after the ordeal with the dragon's tail?
But the land that rises from the sea
Will be dry and clean and soft and free
Of mankinds dirt and therefore be
The source of man's new dynasty.
I would assume they mean volcanic islands, since volcanic ash is very fertile. Based on my paper, "At the Earth's Core", all the continental land mass is accounted for; nothing new can be formed, only re-distributed.
Any guesses on the specific location of the volcanoes(Central America-Mexico???)
Three sleeping mountains gather breath
And spew out mud, and ice and death.
And earthquakes swallow town and town,
In lands as yet to me unknown.
Probably our hemisphere. They say that Yellowstone is a mega-volcano that may go off sometime soon, capable of destroying about a third of the country.
We have seen two very destructive Volcanic eruptions in the last couple decades, Popocatepetl (went off in 1996, setting fire to a huge region of Mexico) and Mount St. Helens, which I believe caused massive mud slides as well.
Here is a good reference to take your pick: http://www.skimountaineer.com/ROF/VolcanicSeven.html
Interesting that the largest volcanoes in the world are in Chile and Argentina.
The Chinese who were aligned with the Russians?
And yellow men great power gain
From mighty bear with whom they've lain.
Yes, I agree this is a reference to China and Russia. The "yellow men" certainly have gained great power, now being the world's leading country in manufacture. And from what I've heard, a lot of their technology came from Russia.
Do you think the dicease she refers to is already known to us (AIDS or Ebola maybe) or do you think is yet to come?
These mighty tyrants will fail to do
They fail to split the world in two.
But from their acts a danger bred
An ague - leaving many dead.
And physics find no remedy
For this is worse than leprosy.
I don't think it is AIDS nor ebola, but something new. They have so many artificially engineered genetic weapons now, no telling what would be released if one of the research centers got hit by an earthquake.
Or, it could just be a reference to how low people's natural immunity has gotten. Here in America, the prescription medication business is booming... if Americans lost access to their "meds", then there certainly would be a plague, because the common cold could become fatal--almost as bad as if they lost access to coffee.
I find it interesting that during my trip to Bear Butte, when I was visited by Fools Crow, a shaman, one evening, he told me that "A plague will come to the reservation in winter", and he showed me images of roads closed with "quarantine" signs on them. Interesting.
cointreau wrote:final question: This lady seems to me a better than Nostradamus, how come she is not as famous?
Good question! Probably because she doesn't have a lot of prophecies to her name, and there are many out there claiming she was just "invented" at a later time.
But what she says rings true with me.
