"Mysterious" force holding back Pioneer 10

Post by Tulan » Thu Sep 16, 2010 7:12 pm

Interesting article: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/spac ... space.html. Might this be because the spacecraft is slowly approaching unit speed (as it "escapes" the gravity well of Sol)?

Doppler shifts are generally calculated with the Einstein correction factor, instead of directly, in order to match them with speeds less than light. It is likely that that correction factor is showing its effect here... where there is no correction factor actually needed.

It is equivalent to saying that the scalar unit speed expansion is achieving a change of scale at those distances, as required by scalar motion.
It is time.

Perhaps there is a minute density of some sort in space they are unaware of? Or maybe the odd rock in its path :D

It is powered by a fission reactor--atoms exploding in TIME (radioactive) in the intermediate and ultra-high speed ranges. Explosion in time = implosion in space; namely, it's generating its own INWARD scalar motion (gravity), which was not noticeable in the dense gravity fields within the solar system. As it gets further out and solar gravitation decreases, the effect will be more pronounced. But, since the reactor runs at a constant rate, the inward motion will be at a constant pace, like lightly touching the brake pedal.

If it were solar powered, the slowdown would not occur, but I guess there isn't enough sunlight way out there to make it feasible.

If its generating its own gravity, why will it be pulled toward the sun? Or perhaps I should ask, why would it slow itself down? Would it simply attract others more strongly?

Think of gravity as a 3D, inward "pull." The sun is pulling and the satellite is pulling, with the net resulting appearing as "attraction."
